The base engine for the Lincoln MKT is a 268-horsepower, 3.7L 'Duratec' V6; for those who want more performance, there's also a 355-horsepower, 3.5L 'EcoBoost' V6. Part of a new family of engines, the EcoBoost V6 is has twin turbochargers and direct injection, and it's tuned to deliver the power of a normal V8 yet without sacrificing V6 fuel efficiency. With either engine, the Lincoln MKT comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. SelectShift is included; it brings paddle shifters alongside the steering wheel so that the driver can command shifts during more enthusiastic driving. The transmission even matches the engine revs on downshifts.
All-wheel drive is optional on Lincoln MKT models with the 3.7L engine but included with the EcoBoost engine. The system uses electromechanical clutches to apportion engine torque between the front and rear wheels. The system is tuned for good on-road performance in slippery conditions; the Lincoln MKT isn't intended for off-roading.
The Lincoln MKT's interior is plush, elegant and refined. Six- or 7-person layouts are offered, with two different second-row options. A 60/40-split folding bench is standard, along with heated outboard positions. Power bucket seats with heating, cooling and power lumbar adjustment are optional.
The Lincoln MKT comes with a very long list of standard features. In addition to the expected luxury-car conveniences, it includes 3-zone automatic climate control, a reverse-sensing park assist system, rain-sensing wipers, a rear-view camera, a 20GB hard-drive music system, adaptive xenon headlamps, an auto high-beam feature, adjustable pedals, heated and cooled front seating, and a power rear liftgate. An 8-inch touch-screen system controls audio and climate functions.
Available on the Lincoln MKT with the EcoBoost engine is Active Park Assist, a system that takes control of the electronic power steering and uses ultrasonic sensors to guide the vehicle into a parking space while the driver manages the throttle and brake.
A number of driver aids are bundled into a $5000 Elite Package. In addition to a navigation system, it includes Cross Traffic Alert, which helps warn of approaching traffic when backing out of a space; Collision Warning with Brake Support, which flashes a warning and primes the brakes if closing in quickly on slower traffic; a Blind Sport Information System, which warns of other vehicles just beside and behind; Adaptive Cruise Control; and a power-opening Panoramic Vista Roof. Other standalone options include flashy 20-inch polished wheels, a DVD entertainment system, second-row heated-and-cooled seats, second-row footrests and a second-row refrigerator.

The boxy Lincoln MKT is an all-new full-size crossover SUV with seating for up to seven. It is closely related to the Ford Flex.
The more car-like Lincoln MKT fills a void in the market for Lincoln below the truck-based Lincoln Navigator. The Lincoln MKT is more passenger focused, with a comfortable ride and an especially luxurious, over-the-top interior. With a long list of standard features and options like second-row heated-and-cooled seats, the Lincoln MKT is a good choice for those who want to impress their passengers. Because it's closely related to the Flex, which has earned top marks in crash tests, the Lincoln MKT's safety features and security are another strong selling point.
